In 1967 Bolívar participated for the first time in the Copa Libertadores de América. It was the beginning of a brilliant history of the light blue academics and the most complete participation of a Bolivian team.
It participated 26 times in the Copa Libertadores de América, followed by The Strongest. Its best participations were in 1986, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2014, reaching the semifinals and/or the third phase of the competition. It is the eighth team with the highest number of points in the history of the competition out of almost 200 teams that have participated in it since 1960.
