Blooming - THE BRIEF ERA OF LOCAL PROFESSIONALISM

 Santa Cruz soccer became a professional sport in 1965. Blooming won its first and only Santa Cruz title at the professional level three years later, in 1968.

In 1974, they were relegated from the Santa Cruz professional league, but a great campaign in the B division in 1975 brought them back to the first A division, which allowed them to join the league two years later.

The Classics

When professional soccer was created in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in 1965, Bloming vs. Destroyers was considered the classic of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, due in large part to the popularity and rivalry between the two teams. Founded in 1946 and 1948 respectively, possibly because of their similar age, they captured the attention of the fans. It could also be that this competition was due to the fact that the so-called academics were representative of an elite and the others, called "cuchuquis" of a popular neighborhood: the "Maquina Vieja" and its surroundings. Thus they constituted the classic of the time.

However, the emergence of Oriente Petrolero (founded in 1955) changed the panorama. Oriente, financed in its first period by YPFB, won its first local professional title in 1969 and was the first Santa Cruz team to win a national title (1971). In the professional era, Blooming and Oriente progressively became the most powerful teams in Santa Cruz and became the two great rivals. Since those years, they have been facing each other in the so-called Superclásico, which is considered one of the best classics in the country and one of the best in the world due to its intensity. This classic is ranked 49th in the ranking of the best 50 classics in the world, prepared by the English magazine FourFourTwo.

Blooming - One of the first teams from Santa Cruz to play abroad

 Precisely in 1963, as the best team of the moment (they would be crowned champions months after that trip), they received an invitation to play an international match abroad against Guaraní of Paraguay. It was one of the first teams from Santa Cruz to play outside the country. It had been preceded by Florida. Despite the adverse result (1-5 in favor of Guaraní), it was a milestone in Santa Cruz soccer, which was on the verge of professionalism.

Santa Cruz Clasico: Oriente Petrolero 1 - 2 Blooming

 Brazilian Jefferson Tavares scored the winning goal on Saturday at 93'. The other Celeste goal was scored by Arismendi ('7). Dorrego (73') scored for the refineries, who will have the chance to make amends on Tuesday when they face Royal Pari in the Copa Sudamericana. 

The first official Santa Cruz derby of the year went to Blooming. The Santa Cruz academy won 2-1 in the sixth match of the Apertura tournament. 

Brazilian Jefferson Tavares was the Celeste hero, scoring the winning goal three minutes into stoppage time and it looked like the game would end in a draw.

The team coached by Chilean Rodrigo Venegas reached the top of Group B with this victory. They are now three points ahead of Bolívar, who will face The Strongest on Monday.

Erwin Sanchez had to chew on the defeat and had to leave the field after 66 minutes because he was sent off. 

The DT of the refineries started with an alternate team in order to take care of the starters, although most of them started as substitutes, because next Tuesday they have the revenge match against Royal Pari in the Copa Sudamericana. In that match the qualification to the group stage is at stake.

On the other hand, Venegas gave everything he had. Blooming had 17 brilliant minutes in the first half. In this period they made a difference in the game by virtue of the attitude they imposed against an opponent that at the beginning was imprecise, especially in defense.

Fernando Arismendi's goal after 7 minutes was a reflection of what was happening on the field. Rafinha's free kick to the far post; Abraham Cabrera pivoted and brought the ball down for the Uruguayan striker to open the scoring.

Oriente had a hard time at that moment. Even at 17' they could have conceded a second goal. Tavares was not able to score a goal, after a great pass from Rafinha.

A minute later, the history of the match changed. The goal missed by Ferdy Roca after an assist from full-back Samuel Guzmán was a sign of the refinery's reaction, which in the 36th minute generated the clearest goal when Roca headed again and his shot ended up in the hands of goalkeeper Wilson Quiñónez.

In the second half, 'Platiní' Sanchez was forced to put on the starters in order to pull out the game. Hugo Dorrego, Alexis Ribera and Facundo Suárez came on. The changes were noticeable in the Albiverde game because they had more of the ball and grew in dynamics.

Blooming slowed down in this stretch. The wear and tear began to take its toll, although it never gave up. Venegas had to make changes to refresh his team. Clody Menacho, Paúl Arano and Darlan Noronha came on.

Oriente's best moment came when Dorrego scored the equalizer at 73' thanks to an assist from Facundo Suárez.

The 1-1 draw was emotional, especially for the albiverdes fans, who enjoyed the Argentine striker's goal and suffered in the final minutes when Junior Sánchez gave a masterful pass to Taváres, who, in front of Uraezaña, scored with the serenity and effectiveness of an experienced striker.

Oriente Petrolero-Blooming, a duel between two archrivals seeking the summit

 The match, which corresponds to the sixth date of the Apertura tournament, will be played this Saturday from 20:00 at the Tahuichi Aguilera stadium. At 15:00 two matches will be played: Palmaflor-FC Universitario and Real Santa Cruz-Always Ready.

The stellar match of the three that will be played this Saturday for the sixth date of the Apertura tournament is the one between Oriente Petrolero and Blooming at the Tahuichi Aguilera stadium at 20:00.

Both teams will face this match not only with the objective of defeating their old rival but also to reach the top of their respective groups.

Oriente is third in 'A' with nine points, two less than the leader, The Strongest. If they win, they have a chance of reaching the top.

Blooming shares the lead with Bolívar in Group B. Both have 10 points. A win could consolidate the sky-blue team in their series.

 Erwin 'Platiní' Sánchez has no casualties to face this match. The DT of the refineries said that he will keep the same game plan that the team has used in the last five home and away games, so he expects his players to ratify the good moment they are going through with a victory.

Rodrigo Venegas has only one absentee, midfielder Julio Herrera. The candidates to replace him are Juan Ferrufino and Rafinha. The academy's coach is satisfied with the performance of his players in the Apertura, as he values their sustained play and especially their attitude.

Blooming - THE AMATEUR ERA

 In 1951, Saucedo, Castedo and Viera promoted the formation of a competitive soccer team. Under the presidency of Mario Quintela Vaca Diez, the project was formalized and thus began the laureate history of Los Celestes from Santa Cruz. The president of the Association, Luis Iriarte Peña, was asked to register the entity in the ACF without going through the promotion championships, a request that was also made by Always Ready. The Association's response was that applicants Blooming and Always Ready should play a quadrangular with La Esperanza and Junior. Blooming won the quadrangular that gave them the right to enter the First Division of Honor. Under the technical direction of Melchor Rojas, Blooming began its journey in local tournaments.

In 1954, Blooming won the first title in its history as the amateur champion of Santa Cruz soccer. This is the team that won that crown: Rojas, Alpire, Higazy, Viera, Ballivián, Cuellar and Aponte. Squatting: Veizaga, Velarde, Chembo Gutiérrez, Añez, Oyola, Mercado and León.

In 1953 it played its first championship along with La Esperanza, Junior, Abaroa, The Strongest, Florida, Alianza and Always Ready. It made its debut on Sunday, July 19, 1953 against The Strongest. For that historic match he presented this lineup: Ortiz, Añez and Aponte, Velarde, Viera and Justiniano, Mercado, León, Egües, Zeballos and Alpire; Bello replaced Egües in the second half. The chronicle tells that the linesman Sanabria was replaced by Chuquimia because he was smoking while performing his duties. La Esperanza was champion that year.

Blooming won its first Santa Cruz title just one year later, in 1954, with a team very similar to the one it had fielded the previous year. They also won the championship twice in 1955.

It won its third crown in 1958. In 1960, Blooming reached its fourth crown when on December 31, 1960, it defeated Universidad 4-0, winning the championship with one date in advance. The last championship in amateurism was achieved in 1963 with a goal by Roly Aguilera against Oriente Petrolero on November 24, with that goal Blooming won the championship.

It should be noted that in the amateur period, the great Blooming president was Mariano "Malaco" Saucedo, who led the institution when the light blue team won four of its five titles.

THE BIRTH

Soccer in Santa Cruz, whose activity recorded by its historians began in 1909, was institutionalized in 1917 with the founding of the Santa Cruz Football Association (later Asociación Cruceña de Fútbol-ACF), with teams of the stature and popularity of Franco and especially Florida (10 times amateur champion), which dominated eastern soccer until the mid-1940s.

It is in this context that on May 1, 1946, a group of young schoolmates from Florida (part of the Los Chabacanos troupe that they would create in 1949), who had formed the Blue Sky club, decided to found a social, sports and cultural club (a characteristic denomination of those years in the creation of all the important clubs in the country that were born before 1950) that they baptized with the name of Blooming with the light blue color as their motto, which referred to the first stanza of the Santa Cruz anthem: "Under the purest sky of America..." 

The foundation took place in the Círculo de Amigos de la calle Independencia and its protagonists were: Humberto Vaca Pereyra, Humberto Olmos (who was its first president), Mario Quintela Vaca Diez, Rodolfo Castedo, Juan Carlos Velarde, Alberto Lozada Cuellar, Ángel Flores Aguilera and Roque Candia, who lived near the San Francisco church in downtown Santa Cruz.

The most widely accepted version of the origin of the name is that the illustrious historian Hernando Sanabria, consulted on the matter and with a couple of proposals from young people like Skyblue and Bloomfield, came up with the right word: Blooming, which has a very suggestive meaning: to be reborn or to bloom, to be flourishing. It was a time when Santa Cruz was a small city with modest growth. Years later, in fact, it would blossom with full force to become the thriving leading city in the country. The color chosen for the jersey could not be other than light blue with white piping on the collar, sleeve edges and pocket. The shorts were white and the socks were lead-colored.

The club's crest has maintained its shape and color since its creation. It is composed of the light blue that represents the club. The ducal crown and the cross in the center symbolize the Santa Cruz identity and its foundation in the heart of the city. The soccer ball that represents its main activity. It is remarkable the fact that this sports initiative was based on the own effort without receiving help from private companies or the State.

Meet the lawyer who led Blooming's claim to FIFA

 Eduardo Martins is Argentine and is 44 years old. He knows Bolivia through coach Cristian Díaz, today DT of The Strongest, whom he advises. He feels grateful to Blooming because his president trusted him without knowing him. Also, he said that he doesn't know how much he will charge for his work.

Eduardo Martins is the lawyer who was successful in Blooming's claim against FIFA for a disciplinary sanction that prevented him from enabling new additions to his squad.

The Celestes suffered it on the first date of the Apertura tournament, because for this measure they had to face Bolívar with a decimated team, which caused them to lose at home by a resounding 7-0.

The outlook was complicated for the academy, which is facing an institutional and sports crisis due to a debt approaching 4 million dollars.

In principle, it was known that the celestial club would not be able to register new players until the new authorization period in the Bolivian Football Federation, set for June.

What was going to happen with the new signings? Was there no other way out than to face the entire Apertura tournament with what's on the squad? And the descent? There were multiple questions that arose at the time, because to that was added internal fights in the club's leadership, which aggravated the situation.

The hiring of Martins, who has his compatriot Diego Raguseo on his legal team, was key to getting out of the problem.

It was an unknown lawyer in the middle. Martins, he said, got to know Bolivia because he defended Argentine coach Cristian Díaz who sued Wilstermann and other players such as Argentine midfielder Esteban Orfano and Paraguayan defender Ismael Benegas, who came to him to resolve outstanding debts with local clubs.

Martins is 44 years old. Before becoming a lawyer, he worked as a sports journalist in several important media outlets in Argentina such as Fox Sport, Radio del Plata and El Gráfico. He studied law at the University of Buenos Aires and has a master's degree in sports law.

"I am a soccer lawyer, but above all I am a soccer fan," said Martins, a self-confessed fan of the Acassuso club, which plays for the Nacional B Metropolitano in Buenos Aires.

Martins confesses that he is grateful for the opportunity that the president of Blooming, Sebastián Peña, gave him to work on the sanction that weighed on the club, because in addition to the three days he was without sleep to attend and study the case, the achievement now It is not only from Blooming but from Bolivian soccer.

“We are grateful to Blooming and its president because, without knowing us, he trusted us. We took the risk because it seemed that everything was lost, but we let ourselves be carried away by common sense, since the sanction against the club was unfair, ”he said.

"Blooming had paid his debt, therefore he did not deserve to suffer the consequences of a measure that even made him play his first match of the tournament in inferior conditions," he said.

How much will you charge for the job? Martins said that upon receiving the support of Peña and his directors to try to get FIFA to reverse the sanction, they did not even touch the issue of payment of fees.

“I don't even know how much we're going to charge. I am sure that when we bring up the subject immediately we will come to an agreement. Blooming's board is good people and we are grateful for the opportunity they gave us to work”, he said.
